The Huayhuash Trek is Not part of the Huascaran National Park, Local communities of the Huayhuash have organized themselves to receive tourists in the area, and they kindly invite you to come experience the magnificence of their backyard. The Cordillera Huayhuash Mountain range host several 6000+ meter peaks within stones throw from the trail, you will literally ‘have breakfast’ with giants like Yerupaja, Siula Grande, Jirishanca, Sarapo, and more. The trek is longer than most in the area, and there is a “wild west” feel to the place which deepens the sensation of remoteness as you make your way around the circuit. There are a few off trail options exist for the more adventurous hiker, offering sights you won’t soon forget. Follow the trail around Laguna Carhuacocha past three sparkling, differently colored glacier siula lakes, which catch the falling snow and ice that is constantly avalanching off of the peaks towering above. Soak in the hot springs just beyond the Viconga camp. Touch the glacier of Cuyoc at the 5000 meter pass. Visit and enjoy the company the friendly people from the town of Huayllapa, a bustling community deep in the mountains. Test your fishing skills out in one of the many lakes and maybe eat fresh trout for dinner! The Huayhuash is very unlikely to disappoint even the most discerning or experienced international traveler… much to the contrary, the Huayhuash trek is often listed as one of the most spectacular walking trails in the wide world.
