Chavin Arqueological Site

Chavin site located 109 kms southeast of Huaraz, this impressive and mysterious pre-inca temple was discovered   by Peruvian archaeologist Julio C.Tello in 1919. Its structures are made of enormous blocks of stone containing many underground galleries and finely carved sculptures with designs of felines, birds and serpents characteristic of Chavin iconography dating from 1000-200 B.C.

We’ll drive  3 hours south of Huaraz, passing through the towns of Recuay (3.394m/11,315ft), Ticapampa and Catac where we will take a detour of 70 km/43.5 miles to reach the archaeological area before visiting Querococha Lake (3980m/13,058ft), then you can see the profile of a map of Peru, until the tunnel Cahuish (4,500m/14,764ft), through the tunnel will enter the region Conchucos, where we get the "Cristo de la Paz" and begin our descent through Tambillo, the Mirador del Mosna, Shirapata, Machac, Querco Thermal Baths Chavín medicinal and finally visit the archaeological site. Chavin is located between the rivers Wacheqsca and Mosna, at an altitude of (3177m/10,423ft).  You will visit the archeological site including the Plaza Square, the Gate of the Falcons, the Plaza Circular, Lanzón Gallery, Gallery of Labyrinth and the Gallery of the Beautiful. After sightseeing we return back to Huaraz on the same road. 7-8 hours.
