Laguna Aguak - A Challenging Acclimatization Day Hike
Trekking in the Peruvian Andes is transcendent and eternal, infectious and convincing that you chose a true “national geographic” adventure.
Laguna Aguak at 4560m/14,961ft in the beautiful Cordillera Blanca mountain range
Laguna Aguak is a challenging acclimatization day hike rated as hard because it involves a sustained upward ascent on a nice trail for 3 ½ to 4 hours to reach this beautiful glacier formed lake. As your hike takes you higher, you gain great vast views of the Cordillera Negra mountain range as a back drop to the city of Huaraz seen in the valley below with great views of the white-capped high peaks of the Cordillera Blanca range to the southeast as your ascent brings you close to the top. The Laguna Aguak hike is a good choice for a second follow-up acclimation day hike and is especially recommend for those who have already completed an easy to medium hike the day before and now seek to pursue a more challenging hike. This hike is particularly good as necessary support for acclimating to higher altitude for one of Inkaland Journeys’ Andes guided mountain climbing programs to several of the spiraling summits in the beautiful Cordillera Blanca range.
We start early right after breakfast with our trekking guide meeting you at your hotel with our private transportation. From Huaraz, we will drive up to the Wilkahuain Village where the Willkawain archeological complex dating back to about 600 - 900 AD is located. As you begin hiking it initially starts on an easy, gentle ascent then becomes a steady gradual ascent up to reach Laguna Aguak.

On the Walk up to Aguak Lake – with southeast views of the Cordillera Blanca peaks
Upon reaching Laguna Aguak, you capture both the site of this beautiful colorful glacier made lake and the amazing surrounding panoramic views of the Andes peaks from this prime lofty position. Reaching Laguna Aguak you’ll spend time walking around, capturing great photos and enjoying a snack and a drink before we begin our descent back down to Wilkahuain Village where our private transportation waits to drive you back to your Huaraz hotel. Approximate time is about 7 to 8 hours.
